Final day for unregistered voters to register to vote for the Tuesday, November 8, 2016 General Election (and all future elections) is Sunday, October 9, 2016, voter registration forms are available at the Smithfield Police Department, 215 Pleasant View Avenue, Smithfield, R.I. 02917.
Final day to apply for a Braille or Tactile Mail Ballot is Monday, September 26, 2016.
Final Day to submit application for a regular mail ballot for primary is Tuesday, October 18, 2016.
Prior to October 9, 2016, Registrations are received daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Town Clerk’s Office. Also, you can download a voter registration form by visiting www.sec.state.ri.us/elections to fill in, mail in, or drop off. Online Voter Registration is also available by visiting www.vote.ri.gov.
Mailing address is: Smithfield Board of Canvassers, care of the Smithfield Town Clerk’s Office, 64 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, RI 02917. You may access additional information such as your precinct designation and voter history.
As an existing registered Smithfield voter, who has had a recent change of address or a recent name change, you may wish to update your voter registration form.

ATTENTION SMITHFIELD VOTERS
Rhode Island state law requires voters to present a valid photo ID at the polling place before being allowed to vote. The following is a list of photo IDs you can show at the polling place:
- RI driver’s license
- US passport
- ID card issued by an educational institution in the United States
- US military identification card
- ID card issued by the US government or State of Rhode Island (RIPTA bus pass, etc.)
- Government issued medical card
- RI Voter ID card
You must provide one of these proofs of identity to receive a free voter ID card:
- Employee ID card
- ID card provided by a commercial establishment
- Credit or debit card
- Military ID card
- Student ID card
- Health club ID card
- Insurance plan ID card
- Public housing ID card

If you do not bring an acceptable photo ID to the polling place, you will be allowed to cast a provisional ballot. For more information regarding provisional balloting go to the RI State Board of Elections website (www.elections.state.ri.us).

The Smithfield Board of Canvassers is seeking Poll Workers for the following upcoming elections for the year 2016.
- Primary: September 13, 2016
- General Election: November 8, 2016
Polling places are open from 7:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. If you are available to work and are currently a registered voter in the Town of Smithfield, please call the Board of Canvassers at 233-1000 Ext. 114. You can register to vote in the Town of Smithfield through the Town of Smithfield website www.smithfieldri.com or the Rhode Island Secretary of State’s website www.state.ri.us by downloading a voter registration form and mailing it to the Smithfield Board of Canvasser’s Office, 64 Farnum Pike, Smithfield, R.I. 02917. You can also visit the Town Clerk’s Office during our regular business hours of 8:30 – 4:30 Monday through Friday and register to vote at that time.
